SANIDERM REMOVAL

✦ Keep the Saniderm on as long as possible (4 hours-two weeks).

When taking it off, use warm water and unscented soap (I recommended doing this in the shower). Don’t rip it off like a bandaid, be gentle and slow.

✦ Once the Saniderm is off, wash it again with warm water and unscented soap. Pat dry with a paper towel, or a clean towel.

Repeat once a day for a week.

PLEASE DO THESE THINGS:

✦ Moisturize your tattoo 1-2 times a day for the next month with unscented, water based lotions (Aveeno/Cetaphil/other sensitive skin products with no fragrance). Avoid petroleum based products like vaseline, these are too thick and can trap bacteria under them. Be mindful not to use too much moisturizer, a light layer is enough. It is possible to over-moisturize your tattoo.

✦ Keep the healing area as clean as possible, avoid touching it while it’s healing—even/especially when it starts to feel itchy! This helps your tattoo heal evenly and stay free of possible irritation or even infection. I also recommend putting clean sheets on your bed and using a fresh towel.

PLEASE AVOID:

✦ Using fragranced/sparkly/exfoliating products on your tattoo for 2-4 weeks.

✦ Direct sunlight on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks, and PLEASE use sunscreen if you know you will be getting sun. UV protection is the most important thing to remember if you want to preserve your tattoos.

✦ Swimming/soaking in water (baths, hot tubs, rivers, etc) for at least 3 weeks.

✦ Touching and scratching your tattoo, especially as it gets itchy. Itchiness is normal, and the dry skin/ink will flake off on it’s own as it heals. Moisturizing helps this process, as does *lightly* patting where it itches, or itching skin around the tattoo.

WHY:

✦ Your tattoo is currently an open wound. We want to treat it as such, and mitigate the risk of you getting an infection, which can lead to pain, discomfort, and a poorly healed tattoo. Risk increases when you introduce bacteria (i.e. swimming in a river, not cleaning it, touching it without washing your hands, etc.).

As long as you follow these instructions, your tattoo should heal smoothly. Should anything weird happen during your healing process, please reach out and I’ll help as best as I can. :)
